Paris Airport

My next flight from Paris is on time but I have an hour to go.
The airport is just beyond my expectations.Truly international.I dont mind spending all my life at airports.Wish I could take pictures. I think they have some restriction.
- I had an aerial view, few minutes before landing here at Paris. The city or the surrounding areas of airport looked neatly arranged chocolates in a box with lots of greenery.

- The long waiting queue at the airport was full of senior citizens. I don't see many young people.
- An incident near the transit. A couple from US were shouting at the guards who were letting the passengers take the right bus. Female security assistant had heard the flight number wrongly from the couple due to strong French accent. 2ET was heard 2ED
Couple missed bus. I suppose they missed the flight as well.

- I wanted to make a local call inside Paris. There are no phones ? I wanted to exchange my rupee for euro to make the call. Amex person said " Min. of 10 euros" "10 euros for a local call ? forget it"

- Met many indians on the way. anand vishwanathan - works at HCL perot, leaving to cinnicatti Prosenjit sen - works at Caritor, leaving to Buffalo Dint ask the next seater lady's name. She works at iflex leaving to Phoenix.
- I think I should do lot more international assignments. Meet. Talk. Move On.
- Food was nice in the flight. Travelling in economy is not that bad.

Bangalore - Paris - Boston

Friends tease me.
In spite of the fact that I was the first to be placed among the batch, I haven’t seen much of the world.
Had a great urge to go around, but not been so lucky.
The farthest travel by air, so far has been Bangalore – Delhi.
So this would be my first ever overseas trip.

Bangalore - Paris - Boston

Look forward to some posts from the unseen land.

The long wait is over...

Atlast. We all had been waiting for this to happen for more than two years now.
The long patient wait is over.

Sometimes you don’t need super models...

Over the weekend I was at Landmark book store to pick up some intro book on yoga.
Either it’s too expensive, the content isn’t well put or they are boring.
I must have browsed 30-40 books and finally to buy none.

Our yoga trainer gave away this two pager hand-outs y'day. Look at the pictures. She drew them herself.

Sometimes you don’t need super models, ace photographer or a great writer to illustrate the postures ! Two lines and a circle is just good enough.
I complimented her “Nice and Simple pictures”
She said “Looks simple. Not so easy. Try sketching”
I thought a bit and yea she’s right. She must have tried them few ten times before she depicted them here.
Anyways. Awesome cartoons.Amazing simplicity.

Lati and Longi

mapquest generates location map if you specify the latitude and longitude values….

Latitude: 12.924 deg N
Longitude: 77.669 deg E

Our office location is marked with a star

Where did I get these accurate values for Latitude and Longitude?!
Our Lab BTS is powered with a GPS receiver.

This is a better picture if you want to know how this globe is dissected into latitude and Longitude.

Location values for Bangalore would be roughly around these values

Latitude: 12.924 deg N
Longitude: 77.669 deg E

N and E here represents North East. Right hand top portion of the globe.

Thank you Doctor

How cool is that. Angioplasty.
My brother will have to undergo this in a day or two.
I was bit tensed till I read about this technique.
In Angioplasty Doctors reach the patient’s heart without cutting open the chest.
They’ll do it all through a needle injected from the thigh portion.
That means no knife, no blood and he’ll be back in action in a week’s time !

Movies and Subtitles

It has been my most religious practice for several months now. One Hollywood movie per week.
This started long before, I got the British Library membership.

Dont know if this one still exists. There was one ( coffee bar + library) in airport road behind intel's office, called Leisure Hours. They used to play movies over the weekend on a jumbo screen. That was my weekend adda till I found out British library.

Office boys of Leisure Hours knew me for just one thing. That I would never watch a movie without the English subtitles in the bottom. Those were my early days of watching movies from the west. So, subtitles were sort of a necessity. And partly due to the noise of a coffee making machine in the background. Over a matter of time, I got this addiction. I would never watch a movie burnt on a CD, because VCDs were never available with the subtitle option.

Funny thing is, Subtitle option, is actually not meant for non-native speakers of english but for the hearing impaired. There is a majority of people who think that subtitles take away the pleasure of a full-screen viewing. True probably. But I feel screenplay-writer's magic somehow goes unnoticed if you have muted the titles. For me lines are more important than circles.

North by NorthWest. Hitchcock's finest. Watch this once with the titles on.

My most recent Buy

3G Wireless Networks
By Smith, Clint and Collins, Daniel

TDM and FDM

If you happen to read any primer books on wireless systems, opening chapters of those will describeTime Divison Duplex(TDD) systems and Frequency Division Duplex systems (FDD).
All fine. Very easy to understand. But there's a problem if they leave it at just that point.
Reader might be led to believe that TDM is better than FDM and CDM is better than TDM and so on...

In reality, there exists no pure Time Division Multiplexed or Frequency Division Multiplexed systems.
TDMA systems (our GSM systems) are a mix of TDD and FDD.
In GSM, you are given a chunk of bandwidth to use.First you divide them into several different frequencies (FDD) and on each particualr frequency you will give a slice of time for different users(TDD).

Urban Yoga

Yoga classes at office have started.Instructor has asked us to get some comfortable clothing.

Friday evening, I was at Bangalore central, for some random shopping.Spotted Urban Yoga. Checked out their collection.
But took nearly two hours to make up my mind to finally put that into the cart.

Here's how I shop. Notice something. Go round and round thinking about this. Look at other buyers.Convince myself that this is actually a need,an essential commodity and not something for luxury. And then I swipe the card.

Very very invloved buying.
That's why most of my buying happens mostly when am alone. Company would kill the above process.

The intention of this post is not to tell you my shopping habits...but about the branding and how best one can describe the product.

Yoga pants which I bought has a tag.
Here's how it reads:
URBAN YOGA ( with a meaningful logo and a tag line)- Spiritual Fitness wear.
Spiritual fitness wear.

The following lines...truly truly satisfies your buying decision.

"Life in the fast lane comes with an ugly side effect :stress that robs us of peace, joy and happiness. Which is why we are witnessng a return to holistic healing through yoga."
The concluding lines of the tag are the best and my favourite.

" Designed for comfort, so that your mind is on what you're doing and not on your clothes"

Copy writer, surely must have experienced the outfit before he wrote those lines.

Car, Bus and Stupidity

You will call this stupidity…but that’s my thinking style at times.

Why cars are short and buses are tall….?!

My answer is:
In cars people sit and travel. That’s why it’s short. You will say….same is true in buses. People sit and travel.

But the reason why buses are tall is…when you step inside the bus…you reach the seats by walking!
For that to happen you need to stand up-right….
Hence they are taller.

Why did I like this piece ?
The fun is in deconstructing an established, taken-for-granted facts and truths…
….Something which we don’t generally do in our routines.

“Silly…”
I heard that.

Vacant/Engaged

Been in this situation at public toilets like office, hotels, theatres, etc ? Trying to knock, push and open a door which is occupied…?
Little embarrassing.

I noticed that our office Toilet room has a clever knob.
When you get inside and lock, the rotation of the knob brings up “Engaged” display outside.
When you unlock and come out it displays “Vacant”
